Frequently asked
You asked, we answered.
Before Your Trip
What time do trips start and end?
Departure is usually in the afternoon (between 5–7 pm). If the vessel is available, you can request an early departure for an additional fee.
What documents do I need?
A valid passport or ID card is required for every guest. Depending on your country of origin, you may also need additional travel documents. Always check with your local government before departure.
How do I book a tour?
To confirm your spot, a deposit of €500 is required. The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure. Payment details are provided when booking. (Some trips may require full payment upfront — we’ll always tell you in advance.)
How do I get to the marina?
Guests are responsible for reaching the departure point. We can recommend the best transport options and help with bookings, but we do not arrange flights or negotiate travel prices.
Do I need sailing experience?
No. Our professional skipper handles all navigation, and you can choose to be as hands-on or as relaxed as you like. If you want, the skipper will also teach you the basics of sailing along the way.
Do I need climbing experience?
Yes, some. This is not a guided climbing tour. Most guests climb 5b–6b (5.8–5.10 US), but routes up to 8b+ (5.14a) are available. You should know how to belay, use your gear, and climb safely.
This is not a guided climbing tour — we do not provide an IFMGA climbing guide. The skipper and crew know the crags and will bring you to the routes, but you should already know how to belay, climb safely, and use your gear. Via ferrata routes are also self-guided, but we’ll recommend ones suitable for your level.
What level do other guests usually climb?
Most are recreational climbers at beginner to intermediate level (5b–6b / 5.8–5.10 US), here for adventure, travel, and fun.
Can I join if I’m traveling alone?
Yes! Many guests come solo and quickly bond with others. It’s one of the best ways to meet like-minded people and share the adventure.
What fitness level do I need?
A normal level of recreational fitness is enough. Activities are flexible and matched to your pace.
What’s included in the price?
Professional skipper and trip planning
Safety equipment on board
Yacht or catamaran
Use of by boat
Guidance on routes and activities
- Food and water
What additional costs should I expect?
Fuel and mooring/marina fees
Transit log & deposit
Extra guides for mountain activities
Transfers to/from the marina
Why is the €300 onboard payment separate?
This cash contribution is collected at check-in to cover shared costs (pantry service, fuel, marina fees). These can vary depending on the route, so keeping it separate makes the process transparent and fair.
Do I need to bring cash?
Yes. While most places accept cards, many small island restaurants, mooring buoys, and local services are cash-only. All destinations use the euro (€). Always have at least 200€ in cash with you.
What is your cancellation policy?
It depends on the yacht’s owner (we work with several partners). Most require cancellation at least 30 days before departure. We’ll always give you the exact conditions before booking so there are no surprises.
Deposit (€500) is non-refundable
45+ days before: balance refunded in full
30–45 days before: 50% of balance refunded
Less than 30 days: no refund
What happens if Climb & Sail cancels the trip?
If we cancel a confirmed trip, you’ll receive a full refund of all payments. Additional personal costs like flights or hotels are not covered.
On the Boat
What kind of boat will we be on?
We sail on modern yachts (45–55 ft) or catamarans (38–45 ft). All have cabins, bathrooms, kitchen, and lounge areas.
What are the cabins like?
Cabins are compact but comfortable, usually with double or bunk beds. Couples get private cabins whenever possible.
Do couples get private cabins?
Yes. Couples get priority for double cabins with a shared bed. Bathrooms are shared unless otherwise specified.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?
No — bed sheets, pillows, blankets, and towels are always provided.
How many people are usually on board?
Most groups have 8–11 guests plus the skipper (and guide if included). Boats are spacious and designed for comfort.
Can I arrive earlier than check-in?
Check-in starts at 18:00. Boats are typically not ready before 16:00, and luggage cannot be stored earlier. Please plan to arrive on time for smooth boarding.
Do we cook and clean?
Yes — it’s a team effort. Cooking together is part of the fun, unless you book a hostess.
Is the water drinkable?
We don’t recommend drinking tap water. Bottled water is provided for drinking and cooking.
Does the boat have air conditioning?
Some do. AC only runs when connected to shore power or a generator.
What about toilets?
Boat toilets have narrower pipes than at home. Toilet paper goes in the bin, not the bowl.
Can I charge my phone or laptop?
Phones: yes, when connected to shore power or if your boat has a generator/inverter.
Laptops: only if the boat has 220V outlets. Bring a portable inverter or request such a boat in advance.
Is Wi-Fi available?
Most boats have mobile WiFi (4G/5G signal). Coverage depends on location.
Are alcoholic beverages included?
No — alcohol is not included, but you can bring your own or buy locally.
What should I pack?
Soft bags (no hard suitcases)
Swimwear + light clothing
Jacket for evenings
Waterproof/windproof layer
Non-slip shoes/sandals
Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
Headlamp, reusable water bottle, power bank
- Climbing harness, quickdraws, GriGri, chalk bag, 70m climbing rope.
What if I don’t get along with people on the trip?
It’s a common worry — we’ve all had it before joining a group adventure. But here’s the truth: sharing a week on a boat, climbing, sailing, and exploring together has a way of bringing people closer fast.
Once the sails are up and the sun sets over the bay, it’s not about who climbs harder or talks more — it’s about sharing moments. Cooking dinner together, cheering each other on at the crag, laughing over a glass of wine… these small things quickly turn strangers into friends.
Even if personalities differ, respect and teamwork naturally grow when you’re living side by side, helping each other tie ropes or drop anchors. Many of our guests come solo and leave with a whole new circle of friends — some even plan their next adventure together before the week is over.
What if I prefer some time alone?
Totally fine. Life on a boat has its rhythm — moments together and moments just for yourself. You can grab a book on deck, take a quiet swim in a hidden bay, or paddle off on your own for a bit of peace.
Many guests tell us that those small solo breaks make the shared experiences even more special. So whether you’re all-in with the group or need some recharge time — both fit perfectly into the flow of the week.
What if I’m not as experienced as others?
No stress at all — every Climb & Sail trip is designed for mixed levels. Some guests climb 5.7, others 5.12 (or 4 to 7a if you speak European 😄). Our goal isn’t to compare grades but to share amazing moments on the rock and at sea.
You’ll always find routes that match your comfort zone — and if you want to push harder, there’s always someone happy to cheer you on or give a belay. Each location offers plenty of choices, from beginner-friendly crags to big challenges for the strong ones.
The best part? The only competition here is who cooks the best pasta or pours the perfect sunset drink
Activities & Itinerary
Do I have to join every activity?
Not at all. You can participate as much or as little as you like.
What climbing levels are available?
We choose crags and via ferrata routes to match the group. Options range from beginner (5b/5.8) up to advanced sport climbing (8b+/5.14a).
Can non-climbers join?
Yes. Non-climbers can swim, paddle, relax on board, or explore villages while others climb.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Your skipper may adjust the route for safety. Alternatives include hiking, cultural visits, winery tours, or enjoying a quiet bay / marina.
Safety & Insurance
Is it safe?
Yes. Our skippers are highly trained. Safety is always the top priority.
What about insurance?
We recommend travel insurance that covers sailing and optional climbing/hiking.
Are there age restrictions?
Private bookings have no age limit, but minors must travel with parents or legal guardians.
Seasickness tips?
Our routes mostly stay close to shore in calm waters. Seasickness, if it happens, is usually mild and temporary. We recommend bringing motion sickness tablets, wristbands, or patches just in case.
Tailor-Made Options
Can I customize the trip?
Yes. You can choose:
Type of boat (yacht or catamaran)
Level of activity (climbing, hiking, cycling, or just sailing)
Route and pace
Private or shared trip
Can we combine mountains and sea?
Yes — for example, a week in the Dolomites, Chamonix, or Tuscany (hiking, via ferrata, cycling, wine tours), then a week sailing in Croatia, Sardinia, Greece, or Mallorca. We handle all logistics, transfers, and guides.
